About Deep Tissue Massage

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage uses slow, firm pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It's designed for chronic tension, the knots and tight bands that lighter massage doesn't reach.

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

It shouldn't hurt in a sharp or unbearable way. You may feel intensity, a "good hurt," in tight areas, but pressure should always be within your comfort. Speak up at any time, and Timi will adjust.

Will I be sore afterward?

Some people feel mild soreness for a day or two after deep work, similar to after a good workout. Drinking water, moving gently, and a warm shower or bath can help.

How often should I get a deep tissue massage?

It depends on your goals. For chronic tension, many clients start with sessions every one to two weeks for a few visits, then move to every three to four weeks for maintenance. Athletes often book every two to four weeks during their season.

What's the difference between deep tissue, sports, and myofascial massage?

Deep tissue focuses on deeper muscle layers with slow, firm pressure. Sports massage is organized around your sport and training schedule. Myofascial release uses sustained holds and stretches to address connective tissue. Most sessions blend all three.

I'm not sure which service to book. What should I choose?

If you want firm, focused work, book deep tissue. If you want a full-body session with moderate pressure, book therapeutic massage. Either way, Timi will adjust once she hears what's going on.

Your First Visit

What happens at my first appointment?

You'll complete a health intake online before your visit. At the session, Timi reviews it with you, asks about your goals and problem areas, and may look at your posture or movement. Then she leaves the room while you undress to your comfort level and get under the sheet.

What should I wear?

Whatever is comfortable. You'll undress to your comfort level and be fully draped with a sheet and blanket. Some clients keep their underwear on; some prefer athletic shorts for stretching and myofascial work. All of these are fine.

Will I be covered during the massage?

Yes. Professional draping is used at all times. Only the area being worked on is uncovered, and draping is secure and respectful.

Should I talk during the massage?

Only as much as you want. Please do speak up about pressure, temperature, or anything that doesn't feel right.

How early should I arrive?

Arrive about five minutes before your appointment. Arriving late may shorten your session so the next client isn't delayed.

Can I ask Timi to avoid certain areas?

Absolutely. Note any areas you'd like avoided on your intake or mention them before the session. Common requests include the feet, face, glutes, or abdomen. Your preferences are always respected.

Is it okay if I fall asleep?

Yes. Many clients drift off during a relaxing session, and that's completely fine.

Should I eat before a massage?

A light meal an hour or two beforehand is ideal. Lying face-down on a very full stomach can be uncomfortable.

Where is the studio?

Our private studio is in Millcreek, near 4500 S & 700 E. For privacy and safety, the exact address is provided in your booking confirmation.
